Summerville Calvary Chapel is supporting Royal Family Kids for our 12th year in 2023.   In 2020 and 2021, COVID precautions prevented us from hosting our traditional camp. Instead, we delivered “Camp in a Box” to dozens of campers not only from around the Lowcountry, but as far away as Greenville and Conway. We were able to host camps starting again in 2022 and continuing on this year. In 2024, God willing, we will again host another camp.

Each year we present a different theme through music and drama to convey to each camper that God loves them and we do too. Through the stories of Daniel, Esther, Joseph and others, our campers learn how God loves and cares for all of us. The love for our campers is shown throughout an incredibly busy week.

Our campers enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, and the opportunity to make a tie-dye shirt or participate in team-building exercises. Everybody’s Birthday Party is always a highlight. Many of our campers have never blown out birthday candles or received a birthday present before and we do it up right with water slide jump castles, piñatas, and birthday cake for all. The tea party gives our young ladies the chance to dress up in high fashion and enjoy a special afternoon. Our young men enjoy a sports camp and the challenge of team-building exercises. Friday afternoon is the talent show and our campers do have talent. It’s a full week and the hardest part is the Friday afternoon drive back to town.

We’ve received tremendous feedback from caseworkers, caregivers, therapists and foster parents. But our best feedback comes the following year.  There is nothing like the Monday morning smile of a returning camper when they get off the bus to see the familiar face of their cousin waiting for them. Those smiles and the chance encounters between campers and counselors during the year let us know the impact we’re making. One week truly does make a difference.

RFKC Summerville is affiliated with For the Children, an international non-profit organizing summer camp experiences and year-round mentoring for these boys and girls.  RFKC Summerville is one camp of over 250 camps in 40 states and 27 in 11 countries that impacts about 7,000 young children each year.

Our camp this year will begin on July 8.
